Renowned Teochew Economist Named Fellow of International Economic Association

Recently, the International Economic Association (IEA), spearheaded by the Social Sciences Department of UNESCO, unveiled its list of 2023 IEA Fellow Awardees. Among them, Professor Yu Miaojie from Liaoning University was honored as a Fellow of the International Economic Association. He stands as the fourth Chinese economist to receive this prestigious accolade after Professors Qian Yingyi from Tsinghua University, Wu Jinglian from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and Lin Yifu from Peking University. Notably, Professor Yu Miaojie is the sole Chinese economist among the 12 global recipients of the 2023 IEA Fellow Award.

About Professor Yu Miaojie:
Professor Yu Miaojie, born in 1976 in Chaozhou, Guangdong Province, is a distinguished scholar and doctoral supervisor. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of California, Davis. Currently serving as the Vice Secretary of the Party Committee and President of Liaoning University, Professor Yu is also a Changjiang Scholar, a recipient of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, and holds various prestigious academic positions both domestically and internationally.

Professor Yu’s research focuses on international trade and Chinese economic development. He has authored nearly 200 papers published in top-tier journals both domestically and internationally, as well as numerous monographs, textbooks, and essays in Chinese, English, and German. Recognized for his contributions, he has received multiple awards, including the Royal Economic Society Prize, the Liu Shih-Pei Economics Prize, and the Zhang Peigang Development Economics Prize, among others. Professor Yu is also a sought-after consultant for organizations such as the United Nations, the Asian Development Bank, and various government agencies.
Professor Yu’s accolades include being received by President Xi Jinping as a representative of outstanding young teachers during Peking University’s 120th anniversary celebrations and participating in a high-level symposium hosted by Premier Li Keqiang as an exemplary representative of National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars on its 25th anniversary.
